Job Description:
Job Title: Echocardiographer Profession: Clinical - Allied
Specialty: Echocardiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1st Hours per
Shift: 10 hours or 8 hours Experience: 1 to 3 years as a cardiac
sonographer License: Required Certifications: American Heart
Association Basic Life Support, ARDMS or CCI certification
Must-Have: Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree.
Successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP approved School of
Ultrasound Technology or Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent
education. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer within 12
months of start or Registered Cardiac Sonographer within 12 months
of start. Description: The Echocardiographer is responsible for
performing Transthoracic echocardiograms. They set up and assist
with Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Under the direction of a
trained echocardiographer, they set up and perform exercise and
Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms. Care is delivered primarily to
an adult population. The individual demonstrates increasing
competency in this field. They perform routine and emergency
echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler,
and Transesophageal echocardiograms as requested. Proficiency in
obtaining optimal images utilizing necessary equipment is required.
The Echocardiographer recognizes basic cardiac pathology. They
analyze patient medical records to gather history of symptoms and
information necessary for diagnostic procedures. Preliminary
reports are prepared for review and interpretation. Equipment must
be operated and maintained in working order. Routine cleaning and
preventive maintenance of equipment is expected. Participation in
quality improvement activities is necessary. They evaluate
procedure results for technical quality and accuracy. Patient care
environments must be clean and orderly. Preparation and instruction
of patients pre- and post-procedure is required. Utilization of
ultrasound contrast according to guidelines is necessary, including
understanding potential side effects.
