Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: OR - Operating Room - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 04/06/2026 - Duration: 9 weeks - 40 hours per week - Shift: 8 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview - Shift: Days, 5x8hrs - Hours: 40 hrs/wk - Start Date: Apr 6, 2026 - Length: 9 weeks - Openings: 2 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a travel assignment at a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma teaching hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of OR experience with mandatory vascular, ophthalmology, and general surgery skills. Details - Work setting is an acute care, Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma teaching hospital with 173 staffed beds - Assignment is in the Operating Room, which includes 16 rooms with a 1:1 patient ratio - Day shift schedule: 5x8 hours (0700–1530) - 2–3 weekend days required per 8-week schedule - Call is pre-assigned by the coordinator; full-time staff are expected to take 1–2 call shifts per week, including vascular call - Holiday coverage is optional — agency staff may pick up a holiday call assignment or fill a gap if needed - Required surgical case experience includes: Endoscopic/Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, and Vascular - Preferred experience includes DaVinci Robotic cases, CVOR, and Hybrid OR - Ophthalmology experience preferred in both scrubbing and circulating roles - Charting is done via Epic - Scrubs are provided by the facility - Free onsite employee parking is available - Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction Requirements - Active IL RN license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted - BLS certification required; CNOR preferred - Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required - Vascular surgery experience required, including vascular call experience - Ophthalmology surgery experience required (scrubbing and circulating) - General OR experience required - Required vascular skills: AAA repair, aortocaval/aortoenteric/arteriovenous fistula repair, AVM surgery, atherectomy, carotid angioplasty/stenting, carotid endarterectomy, EVAR, femoral popliteal bypass graft, renal artery bypass, scrub vascular, TEVAR, and vein stripping - Required general surgery skills: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic assisted procedures, scrub general surgery, and thyroidectomy (partial/total) - Required ophthalmology skills: cataract extraction/implant, eye trauma, glaucoma surgery, vitrectomy, and scrub ophthalmology surgery - Required urology skills: cystoscopy - Trauma amputation experience required - Required equipment experience: electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords - Required professional skills: administration of blood products, cardiac monitoring, infection control, laser safety, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, and Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedures - 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration - Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration Additional Information - First-time travelers are not accepted for this position - All time off requests must be submitted upfront — ideally no more than 5 days of RTO during the contract - Skills checklist required for consideration American Traveler Job ID P-680995.
