Job Description Reporting to the Vice Present, Global Tax, the
Director of International Tax Planning serves to help deliver
strategic tax planning within ITW. He or she is responsible for
coordinating on a project basis, certain aspects of the tax
planning function carried out on ITW’s behalf, including working
with business operations to support business restructurings. This
includes the following:
Build relationships with key decision-makers within the
Formulate the restructuring plans with the business operations
Research tax technical issues related to the restructuring
Model out the tax impact of the restructuring.
Manage/review the valuation work related to the
Manage the review/approval of the restructuring plan.
Manage/support the implementation of the restructurings.
Manage the process to document the restructuring.
Coordinate within ITW as needed on such plans, including
Treasury, Finance, and other tax functions, and complete the
related tax return disclosures.
Also Identify, develop, and implement strategic tax planning for
ITW. This includes the following:
Formulate plans on the strategic planning area.
Research technical issues.
Work with and manage consultants as needed.
Work with and manage internal ITW resources as needed.
Model out the impacts of the planning.
Discuss with other departments both in the US and
internationally as to the potential impacts.
Manage the process to document the restructuring.
Manage the implementation of the planning; and
Complete the related tax return disclosures.
Collaborate with, and support as necessary, other planning
directors on various operational and strategic planning projects
Manage and develop the staff.
Manage the budget and use of external consultants.
Understand the impacts of the restructurings/transactions to the
different areas of tax and consult with others in the tax
Identify and implement process improvements.
Partner with other corporate headquarters functions to
anticipate future needs and support.
Manage multiple operational and strategic tax projects as
Support the IRS and local country tax audit process and assist
in responding to issues, IDR requests, etc.; and
Provide leadership in the tax department, and develop and mentor
a team within the planning function.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or law
required. Master’s degree in Tax/LLM in Tax is preferred
10+ years accounting firm experience including managing multiple
tax accounting projects and client engagements, directing, and
scheduling staff and managing workflow. Additional industry
experience a plus.
CPA or JD certification
Working knowledge of inbound and outbound structure planning,
foreign tax credits, and world-wide tax minimization
US/ international information reporting review experience
Experience in mentoring, guiding, and training associates
Strong experience with corporate tax accounting, ASC 740
Experience with tax technology
Ability to manage and grow strong client relationships
Ability to multitask along with a demonstration of commitment to
Leadership and project management skills
Excellent communication and networking acumen
