As a B2B savvy copywriter you will operate as a key part of an internal agency team (Creative Studio) comprised of writers, editors, designers and strategic thinkers. Ensure written text is concise, consistent, grammatically and factually correct, and on brand. Ensure that each sentence is easy to read and that concepts expressed are in a logical, sequential manner. Translate complex, often technical information into compelling copy for a variety of business audiences. Collaborate with our creative design team and subject matter experts from across our diverse business to devise creative concepts. Deliver outstanding, high-quality writing for use in a variety of mediums.


Your goal is to marry UL’s content marketing and branding strategies and service/product information into innovative and impressive promotional material in a fast-paced environment. Whether video scripts, web copy, thought leadership content or something entirely new, your creative work will effectively engage and educate targeted B2B audiences and drive demand for UL’s offerings.



  • Maintain an understanding of target audiences, business segments and collaborates with internal subject matter experts.
  • Develop and maintain expertise on UL’s brand personality, verbal identity, style guide and guidelines and consistently deliver on-brand copy
  • Assume leadership role in content review for accuracy, readability and adherence to brand guidelines —tone, voice and style—and Associated Press (AP) style
  • Ensure that the organization creates powerful content that helps extend brand influence and brand equity.
  • Develop working knowledge of UL’s organization, business offerings, target audience and competitors’messaging?
  • Stay up to date on macro B2B industry trends relevant to UL’s thought leadership and storytelling ?
  • Develop familiarity with clients’ products and services, the target audience and their competitors’messaging?
  • Able to provide an time estimate for job completion ?
  • Meet client objectives, values, budgets and deadlines
  • Passionately and curiously study copy/editorial principles and best practices. 
  • Read and follow the UL Code of Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Continuously educate yourself on new content methodologies.
  • Build a strong understanding of and passion for our brand and business
  • Translate and express our brand story consistently, cohesively and powerfully
  • Help guide and support team members
  • Liaise with our internal clients from various business divisions, corporate marketing and other functions
  • Develop familiarity with clients' products and services, the target audience and their competitors' messaging

What your work might look like:

  • Adeptly interpret creative briefs, brainstorm creative solutions, conduct spot research/review of sourcematerials and/or interview subject matter experts as needed to support ?delivery of accurate, relevant copy that meets the business need.
  • Write clear, persuasive, error-free and original copy in a variety of mediums, including brochures, one-sheets, white papers, articles, video scripts, infographics, trade show booth materials, presentation decks and internal documents.
  • Amend, revise or redevelop materials in response to feedback from the creative director, account team or clients.
  • Collaborate with creative strategy and brand teams to write brand level content.
  • Collaborate on and contribute to large, high-visibility projects?.
  • Participate in and lead brainstorming sessions as needed.
  • Present pitches, proposals and final deliverables to clients.
  • Write headlines and review photos to ensure captions match the image —including the correct spelling of each name.
  • Review copy and makes adjustments as needed; conferring with writer to request revisions.
  • Offer advice to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the overall editorial process.
  • Ensure all content is factually correct – check name spelling, research citations and confirm URL status.
  • Proofread copy to check spelling, grammar and AP Style alignment.


  • Strong online writing portfolio
  • A bachelor’s degree, writing, marketing or journalism emphasis preferred.
  • Generally 8 years or more of related experience or demonstrated competency
  • Highly proficient in MS Word; SharePoint collaboration experience helpful
  • Impeccable grasp of the English language
  • Strong collaboration, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Natural consumer of content
  • Expert knowledge of AP Style guidelines
  • Logic, creativity and imagination
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivation, flexibility, stamina and adaptability
