The Senior Leave Administration Specialist is responsible for administering all United States leave programs and policies, and for managing Workers’ Compensation claims, from initiation through closure, including all appropriate communications, transactional updates and claim reviews involving employee HR records and pay and benefits coordination. This role will be responsible for providing consistent, quality care in a high-volume service center environment.  The Senior Leave Administration Specialist will also serve as a subject matter expert providing guidance on best practices related to leave/Workers’ Compensation management. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with all Workers’ Compensation laws,  benefit regulatory and reporting matters, maintaining up-to-date leave benefit plan and policy documents, managing vendor relationships, and providing exceptional internal support across our organization.

  • Manage the day to day administration of all leave and Workers’ Compensation programs and policies including, but not limited to: UL Paid Family Leave for Caregivers, UL Parental Leave, ADA, FMLA, Unpaid LOA, Military Leave, UL Salary Continuation Plan, workers compensation and state leaves.
  • Ensure that the workers’ compensation program is managed in accordance with workers’ compensation laws
  • Develop integrated and holistic leave management approach in accordance with existing policies and programs as well as federal, state and local laws and regulations,
  • Assess, adjudicate, track and monitor all leave claims in coordination with absence management carriers where applicable
  • Complete and ensure accurate documentation, approval and tracking for all leave, leave related activities and for workers ‘compensation claim files.
  • Work with , Benefits and WC Third Party Administrator (TPA) to ensure employees on leaves are paid accurately and are appropriately enrolled in benefits (as applicable), responsible for operation of processes related to leave policies such as health and retirement plans
  • Collaborate with absence management carriers, department, WC TPA and Local HR on return to work activities: obtain RTW authorization from physician, gain knowledge of the physical requirements of the existing job or alternate job, coordinate department compliance with restrictions and agreed upon accommodations
  • Deliver high touch quality people experience by using a professional and service-focused approach when handling all leave & WC claim matters, inquiries, transactions and requests,
  • Ensure employee privacy, GDPR compliance, including confidentiality and protection of sensitive employee reports or information
  • Attend and participate in on-going training to support the everchanging environment,
  • Collaborate closely with other functions including Safe-Secure, Risk Management, WC TPA & insurance company, Regional HR Operations, Legal and Payroll to identify, research and resolve leave related matters
  • Partner with internal communications to develop and implement effective educational strategies to ensure effective and consistent messaging of programs to employees and leaders and to improve overall leave management competency
  • Ensure competitiveness of leave programs/policies and evaluates effectiveness of practices and procedures while driving towards cost efficiency
  • Coordinate vendor review process, participate in vendor performance analysis and selection of new vendors
  • Represent the company in claim reviews with our TPA and insurance company.
  • Work with Risk Management,TPA and insurance company to set and monitor claim costs and set reserves.
  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping and annual reports by location for all injuries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • 6+ years’ experience in leave management and employee benefits,
  • 3+ years’ prior relevant experience in a call center or service center environment,
  • 3+ years’ experience with workers compensation administration and case management,
  • In depth working knowledge of US leave management regulations (FMLA, ADA, state and local  leaves, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Worker’s Compensation laws),
  • Experience managing leave and absence administration vendors,
  • Superior Customer Service skills with demonstrated  discretion, integrity, judgment, responsiveness and strong attention to detail,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills,
  • Experience with HR and/or case management technologies (e.g., portal technology, case management, human capital management, etc.),
  • Attentive listening skills that enable asking of probing questions to aid them in problem solving and issue escalation,
  • Experience with HR administration and general exposure / knowledge of various HR functions (e.g., policy, compensation, employee relations, benefits, performance management, etc.),
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.),
  • Dependable and willingness to learn,
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • UL has COVID-19 protocols and policies in place. Business related travel on behalf of UL requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
