Title: Security Assistant Grouping: GESPA Category: I Department:
Safety and Security Reports to: Assistant Safety and Security
Manager Position Calendar : 189 Summary: The Security Assistant is
responsible for student safety, security and addressing student
misconduct. Security Assistants provide a proactive and visible
presence in the halls and cafeterias while also maintaining a firm
but pleasant relationship with the student body. The position
requires strong and positive communication skills with students,
staff, parents and community members. Essential Job Functions and
Responsibilities: 1. Maintain a consistent, proactive, visible,
mobile, and engaged presence throughout the building including
assigned posts, checking doors, halls, bathrooms etc. 2. Maintain
an engaged presence at the assigned post; personal use of
computers, cell phones, tablets, or reading material is prohibited
unless otherwise approved by the supervisor. 3. Ability to work
independently and to make quality judgments that meet the needs of
the school community. 4. Performs in the following manner: Highly
organized, detail oriented, adaptable to change, capable of
handling/prioritizing multiple tasks, people oriented, and
comfortable using standard business technology. 5. Effectively
maintain order and supervision of students in cafeterias, parking
areas, and other areas of campus. 6. Maintain calm, authoritative
demeanor in stressful situations. 7. Communicate concerns or
questions effectively to a supervisor and provide constructive
feedback. 8. Understand responsibilities at each assigned location.
9. Maintain coverage of assigned post unless in an emergency
situation or given authorization by a supervisor. 10. Will accept
changes to assigned daily post locations. 11. Will accept
short-term changes in scheduled work hours (not to exceed 10
consecutive days). 12. Interact appropriately and proactively
according to district protocols with students and visitors. 13.
Approach non-students not wearing a visible lanyard according to
district protocols and may escort to the visitor check-in station
only after supervisor approval. 14. Function as a primary responder
consistent with the District's emergency operations plan. 15.
Communicate effectively to all staff, students, parents, and
members of the public, including emergency personnel. 16. Must
carry and effectively operate a two-way radio according to district
protocols. 17. Manage traffic and parking on the school campus on a
daily basis and special events. 18. Manage traffic on a nearby
public street on a daily basis and/or special events when properly
trained and approved by local police authorities. 19. May be
required to work extended hours after requests of volunteers have
been exhausted. 20. Physically restrain students if necessary and
appropriate in accordance with district training and protocols. 21.
Maintain certification in safety and security topics such as Stop
the Bleed, CPR, and AED Certification. 22. Must attend scheduled
designated mandatory training and professional development. 23.
Understand and enforce the student handbook, district policies and
procedures following the district provided training on the same.
24. Complete related paperwork to report and document student
misconduct. 25. Operate a district vehicle with automatic
transmission for the purpose of patrolling school campus parking
lots. Duties Specific to the Main Entrance: 1. Greet and screen all
visitors to the building and instruct them to wear the appropriate
lanyard I.D.'s (i.e. Visitors, Substitutes, etc.) and assist with
deliveries. 2. Effectively utilize the current technology systems
and procedures to screen all visitors, substitutes and other
individuals who are entering and exiting the school building. 3.
Answer, screen, and route all incoming phone calls that are not
handled by the automated telephone system, including the processing
of switchboard overnight voicemails. 4. Manage all calendars of
events and meetings happening in the building and on school
grounds. Also, coordinate with departments on outside visitors or
anticipated deliveries. 5. Facilitate communication with the Dean's
office on all safety and emergency events, including specific
locations to direct first responders (police and fire). 6.
Collaborate with Dean's Office, Buildings and Grounds and Main
Office on all security procedures and main entrance door access.
Qualification requirements: To perform this job successfully, an

preferred. 2. Stand, run, talk, hear, see and smell as
circumstances require. 3. Lift, carry, push, and/or pull as
circumstances require. 4. Obtain certification, or completion of
training, for the purpose of physically restraining students if
necessary and appropriate. 5. Upon being hired, provide medical
certification of physical ability to perform job duties. 6.
Paraprofessionals first performing duties after July 1, 2017, must
be able to pass the district's physical fitness assessment as
administered by a third-party vendor as needed. 7. Ability to work
in areas of high noise levels within OSHA standards. 8. Ability to
work both indoors and outdoors consistent with federal, state and
local guidelines. 9. Highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable
to change, capable of handling/prioritizing multiple tasks,
people-oriented, and comfortable using standard business
technology. Education and/or experience: 1. Possesses at a minimum:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 2.
Experience with young adults preferred. The information contained
